☀️ August is a special month, sitting in a Canadian season called “Sprinter” (a time of year that starts in spring and ends with winter). We are getting bored of pool days and long for air-conditioned comfort. School is going to resume very soon, so we are already changing our routines to help our kids get used to earlier bedtimes. Prep work is underway: new school clothes, shoes, and supplies. And don’t forget the sign-ups for kids’ soccer and gymnastics classes.
August is also slow and lively at the same time, with outdoor movie nights and delicious night markets. We might start thinking about Halloween while shopping around for a bag of charcoal and sunscreen for the kids. The water guns and sand toys have vanished from Walmart’s aisles, replaced by backpacks and stationery, but it’s still hot outside, and dragonflies are everywhere.
So let’s take advantage of this slowness in August by exploring new activities with your kids. Things like movie nights, nightly food markets, local street festivals, and, of course, family outings to parks and nature trails can keep the summer excitement alive as it winds down. So tell us: what are your favourite family activities to do in August?
